Black&White4 Competizione
The name Competizione symbolizes the blend of precision, creativity, and technical perfection. These factors are crucial for excelling at the Latte Art Championships, and an exceptional coffee machine is paramount. With the new Black&White4 Competizione, Thermoplan has merged the best of both the barista and coffee machine worlds.
Earlier this year, we received the exciting news from the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) that our Black&White4 CTS was chosen as the official machine for the World Latte Art Championships! Since then, we have optimized our chosen coffee machine to meet the needs of baristas. At the end of this month, the first Latte Art World Championship featuring our Black&White4 Competizione will take place. From June 27 to 29, 2024, the world's best will compete in Copenhagen. This is the first time such a championship will be held with a fully automatic machine.
But how does a Latte Art World Championship work?
This year's championship in Copenhagen will see over 30 latte art champions from around the world compete. Each championship consists of three rounds.
In the Preliminary Round, each participant prepares four beverages: one set of two free-pour lattes (where the milk is poured freely) and one set of two designer lattes, where free drawing with a tool (e.g., a needle) is allowed. The art motif is freely chosen in all three rounds. The more complex the motif, the higher the chance of advancing to the next round. The jury primarily focuses on how identical and detailed the two motifs are. The top twelve participants advance to the Semi-Final.
The Semi-Final is divided into two tasks: Art Bar and Stage Presentation. In the Art Bar (not on the main stage), a designer latte is prepared, allowing for creative freedom and the use of food coloring. In the Stage Presentation, six beverages must be presented: two sets of two free-pour lattes and one set of two free-pour macchiatos. The latter is particularly challenging as it involves pouring into small espresso cups, limiting the space for latte art. The top six latte artists advance to the Final.
The Final mirrors the Preliminary Round, where participants again prepare a set of two free-pour lattes and a set of two designer lattes. From the six remaining competitors, one will be crowned the World Latte Art Champion.
The champion holds the title of «World Latte Art Champion” for one year and will receive prizes from sponsors. Additionally, there may be opportunities to serve as an ambassador for certain companies.
We are thrilled that our Black&White4 Competizione will soon be in action and eager to see who will triumph in Copenhagen! During the championship, follow our Thermoplan Instagram channel to stay updated – don’t miss out!
